Alloy 31 is a nickel iron chromium molybdenum alloy with high corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments. It is designed to resist attacks from wet chlorine, Hypochlorite solutions, and other highly oxidizing chemicals. Alloy 31 can also resist pitting and Crevice corrosion, so it is suitable for use in seawater and other chlorine containing environments.
Although Alloy 31 is an alloy with high corrosion resistance, it does not belong to the category of high-temperature alloys. High temperature alloys usually refer to metal materials based on iron, nickel, and cobalt that can withstand long-term service at high temperatures (above 600 ºC) and high stress. Superalloys are widely used in aerospace, industrial gas turbine, Nuclear engineering, energy and other fields due to their excellent characteristics such as high temperature strength, hot corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, etc. Therefore, although Alloy 31 is an excellent corrosion-resistant alloy, it does not belong to the category of high-temperature alloys.
Alloy 31 is commonly used in applications such as heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and piping systems in the chemical processing industry. It is also used in the production of bleach and other chlorinated chemicals.
One of the unique characteristics of Alloy 31 is its low coefficient of thermal expansion, which makes it very suitable for applications where thermal cycling is a problem. It also has good welding performance and can be easily processed using standard technology.
Overall, Alloy 31 is a highly versatile and durable material that can provide excellent corrosion resistance in various harsh environments.
